The troubles for South Korean superstar Kim Soo Hyun keep mounting as amid the Kim Sae-ron dating scandal, late actress Sulli’s family has come forth with claims that she was ‘pressured’ into filming nude scenes with the Queen of Tears star back in 2017.
Sulli was found dead in 2019, and she ended her life reportedly because of depression due to cyberbullying. On March 28, Sulli’s brother released an official statement, seeking clarification from Soo Hyun regarding the filming of their explicit and nude scenes in the 2017 film Real.
Sulli’s family mentioned in the statement that during the actress’ funeral, they had heard “concerning information” regarding the actress’ explicit scenes with Soo Hyun in Real, and that she was pressurised to do those herself despite a body double being present on sets. “Because this matter was not widely known at the time, we also could not verify the exact facts,” the family said.
Sulli’s family questions Kim Soo Hyun, director Lee Sa Rang
The statement then listed three points that the family wanted to get clarified from Soo Hyun and Real director Lee Sa Rang. “During Sulli’s funeral, we heard from staff and actors that her bedroom scene with Kim Soo Hyun was originally not as detailed in the script. We would like to hear Kim Soo Hyun’s position on this,” the statement read.
It further questioned, “To our knowledge, there was a body double available for Sulli’s nude scene, and the body double was present on set. Why was the body double not used? Why was Sulli persuaded and thus, pressured into filming the bedroom and nude scene herself?”
“Initially, it was stated that the body double was absent due to illness. However, multiple testimonies from funeral attendees indicated that the body double was actually present on set. Is this true?,” it added.
Soon after the statement was released in the media, Soo Hyun’s agency, GOLD MEDALIST responded, “We are currently in the process of verifying the facts.”
Kim Sae-ron dating scandal
Meanwhile, Soo Hyun has been at the receiving end of severe backlash owing to the Kim Sae-ron dating scandal. The actress died by suicide in February this year, and her family later claimed that the It’s Okay To Not Be Okay star was in a relationship with her when she was a minor.
While Soo Hyun’s agency denied the claims, Sae-ron’s family presented screenshots of chats in which the K-drama star could be seen asking the actress for hugs and kisses, and also sending her other sexually suggestive messages.
Soo Hyun has incurred a massive loss due to the scandal, and several brands have dropped him as their ambassador, including Prada and Dinto. His upcoming show, Knock Out, has also been shelved temporarily.
