Shimla, 15 November (HS). Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has urged the state government to provide a special economic package to all the disaster affected people of the state on the lines of the disaster affected people of Samej and Baghi Pul.

In a statement on Friday, Jai Ram Thakur said that the decision of the state government to provide special economic package to the disaster affected people of Samej and Bagi Bridge was taken very late by the government. Whereas this time the Central Government had already given advance of the fund to be released under disaster relief to Himachal Pradesh. It was only after the accident that we demanded that normal help would do nothing. People have suffered a lot. Everything of the people has been ruined. It will take a long time for the wounds of this disaster to heal. In such a situation, the government should help the affected people of the disaster due to the severe devastation caused by this monsoon in the state only under a special economic package.

Jai Ram Thakur said that according to the data of the state government, during this monsoon season, more than 101 incidents have taken place across the state in which there has been huge loss of life and property. In such a situation, equal relief amount should be distributed to all the affected people under a special package. Because in disaster the affected people should not be discriminated against in any way.

The Leader of Opposition said that effective steps should be taken for relief, rescue operations and rehabilitation of the affected people immediately after the disaster. But the government took four months to announce the economic package. Still no announcement has been made to give special economic package to all the disaster affected people of the state.

He said that all the facilities should be provided to the disaster affected people as soon as possible and whatever has been announced by the government should be provided to them in a time bound manner. If the government had listened to us, the disaster affected people would have received effective help long ago. During this monsoon, a total of 54 incidents of cloudburst and flood occurred in the state, in which a total of 65 people lost their lives. Out of which 33 people are still missing. Apart from this, a total of 47 incidents of landslides also occurred this monsoon season. Due to which there was huge loss of life and property.
