After three days of treatment, a 3-year-old stray dog that sustained serious injuries to its head and waist after being hit by a car died on Wednesday. A stray dog sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in Thane on Sunday night.

The driver has been identified as Prakash Borulkar, 55, who was driving a car.

The incident took place at Samta Nagar near Pratik Society, located in Vartaknagar, Thane on Sunday at 11:53 PM when a car was heading towards Samata Nagar road and ran over a stray dog before fleeing the scene.

The incident was captured in the CCTV footage installed in a nearby area. In the CCTV footage, it can be seen that a car was coming and three stray dogs were standing on the road, and it ran over one of the dogs while the other two moved out of the way.

An animal lover rushed to the spot and took the dog to a veterinary clinic for treatment. The dog suffered serious injuries to its head and waist. The condition of the dog is very critical, and it is unconscious.

An FIR was registered at Wagale Estate Police Station under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of 11(1)(i) of the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act.

Shivaji Gaware, Senior Police Inspector from Wagale Estates Police Station, said, “We lodged a case. No arrests have been made yet. Further investigation is underway.”

Sonali Waghmare, an animal activist at Alfa Foundation, said, “The dog’s skull was broken into two parts and it died on Wednesday. The body of the dog was handed over to an animal activist for burial in Thane.”
