Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who was in controversy in the case of alleged derogatory remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has got a big relief from the Madras High Court. The court on Friday granted him interim anticipatory bail.
Kamra, who is a resident of Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, was expected to be arrested by the Mumbai Police. Because of this, he had applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court. The Mumbai Police sent him two summons for questioning.
What is the whole matter?
The controversy began with Kamra’s recent show at Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Mumbai, where he introduced a parody song while sarcasm at Eknath Shinde. After the show, there was resentment among Shiv Sena supporters and some activists vandalized the club. On the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, Khar police had registered a case against Kamra.
Police action and appearance demand
The 36 -year -old Kamra was summoned by the Mumbai Police for questioning. He was supposed to appear on Tuesday under the first summons, but asked for seven days. The police then asked him to appear on 31 March.
In this case, the police arrested 12 people, including Shiv Sena leader Rahul Kanal, for vandalizing the club, although they got bail within a few hours. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Legislative Council has also accepted a notification notice against Kamra for derogatory remarks against Shinde.
