Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An 18-year-old Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination aspirant was electrocuted while standing on his hostel balcony under Bhanwarkuan police station area in the wee hours of Thursday.

The incident occurred in a hostel in Indrapuri around 3 am when the victim was standing on the balcony on the fourth floor and came in contact with the high tension line passing near the balcony. He was rushed to the MY Hospital where he was declared dead.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Umang, son of Umesh Chowdhary, a native of Itarsi in Narmadapuram.

His friend Shivang said that Umang had come to the city around a year ago and was preparing for the SSC examination at an institute in Bhanwarkuan. He returned to his place around 2:30 am from the library after studying. Shivang heard a loud noise similar to a transformer blast. He ran to the balcony where he found Umang lying on the floor unconsciously. He rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Umang was the eldest son of his parents and had a younger brother.  The police began a probe to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kin allege negligence

Umang’s uncle Neeraj alleged that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the building owner and the electricity department as the high tension line was passing near the balcony, causing his death. Neither the building owner informed the electricity department nor did the department take any cognizance to prevent such incidents.
