The ‘Mitra Vibhushan Award’ is its highest non-citizen award. This honor is given to foreign dignitaries. The Government of Sri Lanka gives these awards to the heads of state who have friendly relations with Sri Lanka. The award consists of a silver medal and a citation.
The award is adorned with the nine gems of Sri Lanka. It is made of moon, sun, earth and lotus petals. “Punala” is inscribed on this medal. It is a pot full of rice. It is considered a symbol of prosperity and renewal. The Sun and the Moon on the medal represent the eternal nature of relations between India and Sri Lanka. The award was started in 2008 by the then President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Defense partnership agreement between India and Sri Lanka
Delegation level talks were held on Saturday between Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Disanayake and Prime Minister Modi. Seven agreements were signed between the two countries. The Defense Partnership Agreement was signed between India and Sri Lanka. The two leaders signed the agreement. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri and other officials were present in this meeting.
It was also agreed to develop Tinkomali as an energy center between the two countries. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi and President Disanayake also inaugurated the Sampur Solar Energy Project virtual. India and Sri Lanka also agreed to provide multi-regional grant assistance to Sri Lanka.
On the other hand, India, United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka also signed a tripartite settlement memorandum in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumar Disanayake.
