Komal Deokar’s decisive performance helped Nandurbar enter the semifinal of the 72nd Senior Men’s and Women’s State Selection Championship Kabaddi Tournament 2024-25 in Thane on Sunday. In a thrilling women’s quarterfinal clash, Mumbai Upnagar Western and Nandurbar ended the match in a nail-biting 38-38 tie. To determine the winner, a 5/5 raid challenge was introduced, which again resulted in a deadlock at 5-5. With tensions running high, the golden raid came into play, where Komal Deokar from the Nandurbar team scored the crucial point that secured their place in the semifinals, marking an unforgettable moment in the tournament.

In another women’s clashes, Pune Gramin dominated Sangli with a resounding 54-16 victory. In a nail-biting finish in the women’s category, Palghar edged past Mumbai Upnagar (East) 30-29. Mumbai Upnagar (Western) displayed their prowess by defeating Nanded 47-28.

In an intense display of kabaddi action in the men’s category, Ahmednagar dominated Mumbai Shahar with a resounding 42-16 victory in the opening match. The second match saw Mumbai Shahar edge out Nashik Shahar in a nail-biting thriller, securing a narrow 27-26 win. Kolhapur showcased their prowess in third match defeating Thane Gramin 46-29 with a commanding performance. Mumbai Upnagar Western kept their nerves in fourth match to clinch a close 26-24 victory over Thane Shahar in a hard-fought battle. Pune Gramin capped off the day with a stellar 37-21 triumph over Mumbai Upnagar Central, marking an impressive end to the lineup of matches.
