Ajay Singh, president of the Indian Boxing Federation, has alleged that recently suspended BFI general secretary Hemant Kalita is preventing Olympic bronze medalist Lovelyena Borgohen from attending the national championship.
Ajay Singh said in an emergency press conference that Lovely, who won a bronze medal in the 69 kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, wanted to participate in the domestic championship to be held in Noida, but Kalita has ordered him to withdraw from the tournament. Kalita holds the post of Secretary of Assam Boxing Association. In an investigation by former Delhi High Court Judge Sudhir Kumar Jain, Kalita was found guilty of financial fraud.
Ajay Singh said that the Assam Association is preventing its boxers from participating in the national championship. Lovelina has also recorded a video in support of the event, but she received a call from the authorities that Hemant Kalita was pressurizing her not to participate in the program. Lovelina has made a huge contribution to Assam boxing, so she is reconsideration of her participation. Kalita has not reacted to the allegations against her. Kalita was a candidate in BFI elections, but he cannot contest elections due to being in the cooling-off period.
