Former world champion India’s PV Sindhu lost to Julie Jacobson of Denmark in the first round of the women’s singles of the Swiss Open Badminton tournament.

 

After losing in the first round, Sindhu looked quite disappointed and angry she also threw her racket. After losing in straight games to Denmark’s lower ranking Julie, Hyderabadi shuttler looked upset with some decisions taken against him. Sindhu lost 21–17, 21–19 in a 61-minute match. Sindhu lost in the first round of the third consecutive tournament this year.

In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth defeated compatriot Indian HS Prannoy 23-21, 23-21 in his first match of the BWF Super 300 tournament. Qualifier Shankar entered the second round with a win on Magnus Johansson 21–5, 21-16. World number 23 player Malvika Bansod’s campaign also ended. The 23-year-old Malvika lost her rhythm after winning the first game and lost 22–20, 14-20, 19-21 to Michelle Li of Canada in a 65-minute match. Anupama Upadhyay defeated Anmol Kharb 21-14 21-13 to enter the second round.
