The level of football in Gujarat has been continuously increasing for the last few years. Due to the collective efforts of Gujarat State Football Association, Gujarat Sports Authority, All India Football Federation, private clubs and district associations, the graph of football development and young talent in Gujarat is continuously going up.
The work of development of football was started from the grassroots level and Gujarat State Football Federation has played an important role in this. The Blue Cubs Club Championship was recently held at St. Xavier’s Loyola Football Ground in which a total of 23 teams including seven district associations participated. A total of 388 teams from 23 district associations participated in the State Blue Cub League organized by GSFA in 2023-24. This league is played in the under-8, 10 and 12 age groups. These matches were played at 33 different venues and 4200 young players participated. More than ten thousand players from Gujarat are registered under All India Central Registration (CRS) and more than five thousand players are active. In the 2023–24 season, over 4290 players played over 553 matches and scored a total of 3255 goals. There is every possibility that Gujarat will now become the hub of football.
