With the conclusion of the assembly elections, attention has shifted to the upcoming Municipal Corporation Elections (NMC Elections). Amid this, rumors of a potential transfer of the current Municipal Commissioner have taken social media by storm. Speculation is rife that Tukaram Mundhe, a noted IAS officer known for his discipline and integrity, might assume the role of Municipal Commissioner in the new year.

Mundhe, a former Municipal Commissioner, is celebrated for his strict adherence to rules and commitment to duty. Messages featuring his photograph are being circulated across various WhatsApp groups, fueling talks of his return. This buzz has created both excitement and apprehension within municipal circles, with some officials reportedly concerned about the prospect of working under his uncompromising leadership.

Row surrounding current commissioner

The current Commissioner, Dr. Ashok Karanjkar, has faced criticism over several controversies. These include the overnight issuance of a ₹55 crore cheque for land acquisition and a last-minute tender for a ₹200 crore cleaning contract. Such incidents have led to ongoing discussions about his potential transfer.

While the rumors surrounding Mundhe’s appointment continue to gain traction, there has been no official confirmation from the administration. However, the possibility of his return has already stirred significant anticipation in the municipality as the new year approaches.
