Amid political heat and massive turmoil in Maharashtra over the past few days, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray have issued notices to the MLAs of the group and asked them to respond within seven days.

MLAs of Shinde faction were angry

Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar said notices have been issued to 40 MLAs of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 14 of the Thackeray group, seeking their answers on the disqualification. The decision has come at a time when the debate over cabinet seat in the state government is on and it is believed that the MLAs of Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction, which is in alliance with the NCP faction, are angry. Importantly, the Speaker has to decide on the disqualification of the 16 MLAs of the Shinde faction.

Eknath Shinde rebelled last year

Last year, there was a rebellion in the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, after which the Shiv Sena (Shinde Group) formed the government in Maharashtra along with the BJP. Uddhav Thackeray’s faction approached the Supreme Court against this. Uddhav Thackeray faction demanded disqualification of Eknath Shinde and 15 MLAs along with him. The Supreme Court had made an important comment on this matter in May and had sent the matter to a larger bench. The court said, the governor’s order to conduct the floor test was wrong. But Uddhav Thackeray’s government could not be confirmed because he himself resigned. Along with this, the Supreme Court left the decision on the disqualification of the MLAs to the speaker. The Supreme Court said that the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly will decide on the disqualification of 16 MLAs.
