Troubled by unwanted calls and spam messages? Now you are going to get relief! The Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) has made a provision for heavy fines on telecom companies, showing strictness on spam calls and messages.
If a telecom operator fails to curb spam calls and messages, or reports spam wrongly, he will be fined from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Under TRAI’s new rules:
Spam callers will have real-time identity.
Companies will be fined heavy for incorrect reporting.
The deadline for filing complaint has been extended to 7 days.
TRAI’s new rule to stop spam calls and messages
TRAI has ordered all telecom companies (Jio, Airtel, VI, BSNL etc.) to identify spam callers in real-time and analyze the call pattern.
How will spam callers be identified?
Unusually more call volume (too much call number)
Very short call period (most of the calls are only for a few seconds)
Incidental and outgoing calls imbalance
If more calls or messages are sent from a number, it will be considered spam and can be blocked immediately.
What will be the penalty on spam calls and wrong reporting?
A fine of up to ₹ 2 lakh for the first time.
A fine of up to ₹ 5 lakh on violation for the second time.
A fine of ₹ 10 lakh per case for repeated violations.
Meaning: If a telecom company does not take action on spam callers, he will have to face heavy financial punishment.

Registration will not be required in “Do Not Disturb” (DND).
Any user can file a direct complaint and expect action.
