Karnataka Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar (L) & Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge | X @ANI

Bengaluru: Leaders from southern states have strongly opposed the Centre’s plan for constituency delimitation and implementation of the three-language policy under the New Education Policy 2020, alleging that the Centre is attacking their “existence.”

Speaking with ANI, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said that the southern states will fight unitedly against the centre over this issue.

“Southern India contributes largely to the economy of the country, and delimitation and NEP (National Education Policy) is like erasing our entire existence; hence, we will all fight unitedly.” Priyank Kharge said.

Additionally, the Karnataka Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar said that the BJP is trying to implement “their agenda” and accused them of trying to “crush” different forms through the regulatory bodies in the name of reforms.

“BJP government is somehow trying to bring in their own agenda, trying to crush it in different forms. So they are using the regulatory bodies in different forms in the guise of reforms,” MC Sudhakar said.

“Globally accepted language is English and that should suffice along with the regional language… Southern issues take population control very seriously and now when it comes to devolution and allocation of funds, they talk about population… When it comes to delimitation, southern states are going to be affected,” he added

Sudhakar further extended his support to Tamil Nadu CM Stalin who, earlier in the day, urged the people to “rise” to defend the state in a fight against the delimitation of constituencies and the three-language policy.

Sharing a video message, Tamil Nadu CM said that the state is confronting two critical challenges, one of language and the other is the fight against delimitation.

Stalin pressed that the constituency delimitation state’s self-respect, social justice, and welfare schemes for the people.

“Today, Tamil Nadu is confronting two critical challenges – the battle for language, which is our lifeline, and the fight against delimitation, which is our right. I earnestly urge you to convey the true essence of our battle to the people. Constituency delimitation directly impacts our state’s self-respect, social justice, and welfare schemes for the people. You should take this message to people. Every individual must rise to defend our state,” Stain said in a video message on X.
