Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam performed in Bengaluru on February 23, Sunday, and while at it, he was seen breaking down on stage after performing his version of Mere Dholna from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Later, he revealed in a video that the last time he cried like that was post the demise of his mother in 2013.

In the video, Sonu can be seen enthralling the audience with a mindblowing rendition of Mere Dholna, and later, getting emotional and choking on the stage. Addressing the moment later, the singer shared a video on Instagram in which he said, “Today, I had a show in Bengaluru. After performing, I was so emotionally, physically, and mentally drained that I woke up with a jolt.”

He went on to say, “Today, after performing in Bengaluru, I realised that sometimes, even if a person doesn’t sing perfectly, or doesn’t sing well, there is such an energy that builds up, and such an atmosphere is created that people connect to it, and they end up crying. It was the first time I sang Mere Dholna on stage. I hadn’t planned to sing it, I hadn’t even rehearsed it. But when the atmosphere became so emotional, I was almost in tears.”

“Itna roya hu main stage par main. Mera bas chalta toh main rok deta, lekin agar main gaana rokta toh log sochte ki humein chidaa ke gaana nahi gaaya. Aisa main rota tha jab mummy ka dehaant hua tha 2013 mein… Tab 3-4 saal jab main Kya Hua Tera Waada stage par gaata tha aur main phoot phoot ke rota tha. Ab thoda kam hua hai itne saalon ke baad,” he added.

Sonu shared that there are only two songs that he cried listening to and those were Abhi Mujhme Kahi from Agneepath and Mere Dholna from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

In the caption, he also promised his fans that he will control his emotions next time.

Mere Dholna 3.0 was a part of the 2024 film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which starred Kartik Aaryan in the lead. It was the third rendition of the song, which has been a part of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise since its inception.
