News India Live, Digital Desk: Under the ambitious Bharatmala Project of the Government of India, several expressways and highways are being built across the country, which are in discussion for different characteristics of their construction. In this direction, it is planned to develop the Bundelkhand Expressway of Uttar Pradesh as ‘Solar Expressway’. Under this project, solar power panels will be installed on both sides of the expressway.
Solar expressway will be 296 km long
The plan to install solar panels on the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway is part of the solar power policy of the Uttar Pradesh government, 2022, which aims to produce 22,000 MW solar energy in the state by 2026-27. These solar panels will be planted on 15 to 20 meters wide land located between the main carriageways and service lanes of the expressway. This will also protect agricultural land and produce energy.
Private companies will implement the project
The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has sought ‘Expressions of Interest’ (EOI) from private companies for the establishment of solar panels. Earlier, solar panels have been set up on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, due to which the toll plaza and the surrounding areas are getting electricity. If the solar project of Bundelkhand Expressway is successful, then the additional electricity generated will also benefit the villages on the roadside.
Industrial cluster will increase employment and industry
Under industrialization, UPEIDA will develop industrial clusters in Jalaun and Banda around the Bundelkhand Expressway. The state government has already approved this scheme. Under the cluster, industries such as electrical, electronics, automobiles, heavy engineering, agriculture and food processing, textiles, medical supply, building materials, logistics, and packaging will develop. This will promote local employment and will lead to economic development of the area.
Major features of expressway
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bundelkhand Expressway on 16 July 2022. It is the fastest -built expressway in Uttar Pradesh, which was completed in just 28 months. The project has been constructed at 12.6% less than the estimated cost. Currently, this expressway is of four -lane, which can be extended to six lanes in future.
