Actress Sobhita Dhulipala has found herself at the center of online trolling after social media users accused her of ‘copying’ actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s outfit in a recent Vogue shoot. The claims surfaced after a strikingly similar dress worn by both actresses led netizens to speculate that Sobhita had recreated the look of her actor-husband Naga Chaitanya’s ex-wife, Samantha.
Reacting to Sobhita’s post, a user commented, “You copied Samantha’s dress also.”
Another commented, “16th Feb post of Samantha same dress.”
“She coped sam outfit (sic),” wrote an Instagram user, whereas another commented, “Shameless, shame on you.”
Same look or just a coincidence?
After closer inspection, it turns out that the two outfits are not the same.
Sobhita’s misty fall slip outfit is a sheer, fringed high-low dress from the AKHL Solaris SS25 collection. It features a see-through mesh bodice in a soft and neutral shade. The intricate fringe detailing cascading from the upper bodice, and transitions from silver to pastel pink and blue.
On the other hand, Samantha first wore the dress in February 2025 while attending an event. Her outfit, designed by Ekta Singh, was from the brand Moonray.
The outfit is a flowy, ombré fringe dress with a structured bodice and an ethereal, dynamic skirt. It features a sleek white sleeveless top, featuring a draped or slightly asymmetrical design. A contrasting green waistband adds definition to the silhouette and breaks the transition.
At first glance, the outfits appear almost identical, leading to the assumption that Sobhita was imitating Samantha. However, upon a closer look, differences in design details and fabric become evident.
Despite the outfits being from two different designers, social media trolls were quick to target Sobhita, alleging that she was trying to mimic Samantha’s style. Some even linked it to her relationship with Naga Chaitanya, who was previously married to Samantha.
However, fashion enthusiasts and eagle-eyed fans pointed out the distinction between the two dresses, clarifying that the resemblance was purely coincidental.
Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita’s wedding
Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 4, 2024, at the Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, which is owned by the Akkineni family.
Naga Chaitanya was earlier married to Samantha. The duo got married in 2017 after dating for a few years, but their marriage ended in 2021.
