News India Live, Digital Desk: Microsoft’s popular video conferencing app is about to end on Skype. The company has announced that Skype will be completely discontinued from 5 May 2025. The main reason for shutting down Skype is that the company now wants to fully focus on its new app Microsoft Teams.
What is the reason for shutting down Skype?
The purpose of Microsoft is to pursue the Teams app behind closing the Skype. Teams were launched in 2017 and its popularity has been increasing rapidly since then. Microsoft is consistently adding new features to Teams, which is a better option for professional as well as personal use. For this reason, Skype users are now being encouraged to shift to Microsoft Teams.
What will be the change for Skype users?
Users using Skype are already being informed through notifications to switch to Microsoft Teams. Skype paid users will be able to use it till the next renewal date of their plan, after which their account will be completely closed. Also, the service of Skype Credit and Calling Plan has already been stopped for new users.
22 years journey will end
Skype was launched in 2003 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011. Many features of Skype have been slowly closed over the years, and now the company has decided to completely shut down Skype.
