Despite a heroic unbeaten knock of 85 runs by skipper and opener Bhupen Lalwani, hosts Bombay Gymkhana were knocked out of the RFS Talyarkhan Memorial Invitational T20 Cricket Tournament. Chasing 187 for 8 put up by Cricket Club of India, the hosts fell short by two runs in their close match under floodlights at the Bombay Gymkhana ground on Wednesday night.

Lalwani’s 62-ball 85 included two sixes and four boundaries as he attempted to steer his team tantalisingly close to victory. Sumar Zhaveri with 33 and Onkar Jadhav with 28 were the ones who fought for the hosts till the end even as Aishwarya Sureve shone with the ball with three wickets for 34.

Earlier batting first, Akash Parkar’s 23-ball unbeaten 53 runs with four sixes and two boundaries led CCI to a massive total. Saksham Parashar with 36 and Aishwarya Surve with 29 did their bit for CCI while Deepak Shetty with 3 for 22 and Harsh Tanna with two for 44 shone with the ball.

Brief scores: Cricket Club of India 187 for 8, 20 overs (Akash Parkar 53* (28-balls, 4×6,2×4), Saksham Parashar 36, Aishwarya Surve 29; Deepak Shetty 3/32, Harsh Tanna 2/44) beat Bombay Gymkhana 185 for 5, 20 overs (Bhupen Lalwani 85* (62-balls, 2×6,9×4), Sumair Zhaveri 33, Onkar Jadhav 28; Aishwarya Surve 3/34). Result: Cricket Club of India won by 2 runs.
