Mumbai: Six-and-a-half years after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident near the Andheri station, the Andheri police have filed a case after a senior cop intervened.

About The Case

According to the FIR, on June 28, 2018, at night, the control room of the Andheri police received a call from an unidentified person reporting that a sick man was lying near a railway station and required assistance. Upon receiving this information, police personnel rushed to the scene and found an injured man. The police immediately shifted him to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle West, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 30, 2018, during treatment.

ADR Registered

Following the incident, the police registered an accidental death report (ADR) and began an investigation. Preliminary inquiries revealed the deceased’s identity as Badshah. The post-mortem report indicated that he had died in a road accident. The report attributed his death to septicemic shock caused by multiple injuries sustained in a road traffic accident.

The police completed their investigation in October 2022 but did not file a case as the investigation officer and senior police inspector of the station concerned had been transferred and the case remained pending.

Recently, when Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr Shashikant Bhosle, noticed that the case was not filed despite the investigation, he directed his subordinates to file an FIR. Based on this complaint, the police registered a case against an unknown driver under Indian Penal Code sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life) along with the Motor Vehicles Act.
