MP Minister Vijay Shah Case: Sit Starts Probe; Congress Asks, ‘Investigation Or Rescue Op?’ | FP
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the minister Vijay Shah case started work after meeting senior police officials at the police headquarters here on Tuesday.
This comes amid Congress’s doubts over the impartiality of the SIT, questioning its composition while claiming that some of its members have earlier worked with Shah.
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the DGP to constitute a three-member SIT to investigate the controversial remarks made by the minister against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, referring to her as “sister of terrorists”.
The SIT comprises IG Sagar range Pramod Verma, DIG Kalyana Chakravarthy, and SP Vahni Singh. Special Director General of Police, CID, Pawan Shrivastava told Free Press that the orders have been issued to the SIT members. He added that the SIT has to complete its investigations and submit its report on May 28, the next hearing in the case.
He said that as per the Supreme Court orders, the PHQ will provide all the necessary support to the SIT in investigations.SIT chief IG Pramod Verma met the SDG and discussed the issues related to the case.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar took to X (formerly Twitter) to allege that the minister and two of the SIT members go back a long way. He cited sources to say that IG Pramod Verma was SP Khargone in 2010 when Vijay Shah was the minister in charge of the district. Later, Kalyana Chakravarthy was the SP Khargone in 2018 when Vijay Shah was the forest minister.
Posting in Hindi, he said, “So the officers who previously worked under Vijay Shah will now investigate him? Is this an investigation or a rescue operation?”
