Singer Kalpana Raghavendar, who is known for singing in Tamil and Telugu movies, was rushed to hospital recently after she allegedly attempted to commit suicide at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad. According to ABP Desam, the villa security marked that from two days Kalpana didn’t open the door. So, the neighbours were informed about it, and they contacted the police. When cops opened the door, they found the 44-year-old singer unconscious.
Reportedly, she allegedly tried to commit suicide by swallowing sleeping pills. When the incident happened, her husband, Prabhakar, was Chennai, but he rushed to Hyderabad after knowing about his wife’s suicide attempt. According to the portal, the singer’s condition is critical and she has been put on ventilator support.
The portal has also reported that the police have started the investigation in the suicide case and are questioning the husband. The cops took the husband to the house for further investigation. Reportedly, Prabhakar told the police that he was not at home for two days and he had gone to Chennai.
Kalpana is the daughter of famous singer T.S. Raghavendra. In 2010, she had participated in the reality show Star Singer Malayalam and had won the show. In her career of more than two decades, the 44-year-old singer has recorded more than 1500 songs, and has worked with some music legends like Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. In 2015, Kalpana had won Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her song Pogiren in Jyotika starrer 36 Vayadhinile.
She was also seen as a contestant on the show Bigg Boss Telugu (season 1) which was hosted by Jr NTR. The singer was evicted on day 28. Kalpana has also judged multiple reality shows like Super Singer, Super Singer Junior, and Star Singer. Till now, no official statement from the singer’s team or from the family has been shared about the incident.
