The temperature is rising day by day and the sun is hot. Keeping the body fit in such an environment is a big challenge. Lack of water is a common practice these days. The risk of dehydration increases due to excess water coming out of the body in the form of sweat. This can cause problems like fatigue, weakness, dizziness and headache. Therefore, it is very important to keep the body hydrated in summer. ‘Three drink theory’ can be a simple and useful solution for this.

Our body is made up of about 50 to 70 percent water. Each cell of the body requires water to function efficiently. When the water decreases, the cells become weak and fatigue. Staying hydrated helps the kidneys to function properly and toxins get out of the body. This improves digestion, increases immunity, and the natural detox process is smooth.

According to three drinks theory, three types of drinks should be consumed throughout the day. The first type is plain water. It is advisable to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. If you find plain water boring, then you can add lemon, fennel, mint, cinnamon or chia seeds to enhance its taste and nutrition. The second type is the juice or soup of fruits and vegetables. This can include watermelon, melon, papaya, orange, tomato, cucumber, carrots, spinach etc. This gives the body both minerals and water. You can also take these ingredients in the form of soup or salad.

The third type is a drink according to your taste. It includes tea, coffee, milk, lassi and buttermilk. However, due to the high amount of caffeine in tea and coffee, they should be consumed in limited quantities. Do not drink more than 2-3 cups a day. Some signs of lack of water in the body include frequent thirst, light or clean urination, fatigue or dizziness and light glow on the skin. Therefore, by adopting ‘three drink theory’ in summer, you can easily stay hydrated and avoid heatstroke.
