The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has issued an important instruction to the Department of Telecommunications. According to this, Aadhaar based biometric verification has now been made mandatory for new SIM card connections. The move is aimed at curbing the growing misuse of mobile connections obtained through fake documents. Importantly, illegal SIM cards are purchased with forged documents and then misused.
