Siddharth Colony Residents In Chembur Protest Against Adani Electricity | Devashri Bhujbal

Residents of Siddharth Colony, Chembur East launched a protest against Adani Electricity on Sunday. The protestors have gathered at Ambedkar Garden with placards demanding removal of Adani as the local power supplier. The residents allege that Adani Electricity has been generating escalated power bills to recover dues.

Staff from Chembur police station are present at the protest site to ensure no law and order situation is under control.

The Free Press Journal had reported on December 11, 2024 that the electricity bills dues of Siddharth Colony has escalated to around Rs 120 crore including the charges approved by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) in the tariff schedule. The colony comprising around 3,600 houses has been in dispute with the power supplier for almost 20 years. The colony was being supplied power by Reliance Energy, which was taken over by Adani Electricity in 2018-19.

During the protest on Sunday, the residents demanded the waiving of interest on pending dues and alleged that no staff from Adani records electricity meters in the colony to generate authentic bills.

When contacted the communication departments of Adani Electricity regarding Sunday’s protest, the officer told FPJ that they would comment over the issue after taking updates over the protest.
