Shubman Gill marked his return to domestic red-ball cricket with a century for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy. Battling without much support from the other end, Gill displayed resilience, scoring 102 runs off 171 balls. However, his innings ended in controversy when he was adjudged out in what he believed was an unfair decision.
Gill who was convinced he had edged the ball onto his pads, was visibly frustrated by the umpire’s call. With the Ranji Trophy lacking a Decision Review System (DRS), he had no option to challenge the decision. In a moment of frustration, Gill threw his bat to the ground, expressing his discontent.
