Team India batter Shubman Gill has disclosed that he rued missing the opening Test against Australia in Perth, given he was eager to play at what he described as ‘an iconic venue’. However, Gill admitted that he was impressed by how well the tourists turned their fortunes around to seal a 295-run victory.

“Any time when the ball hits the bat, especially the middle of the bat, the feeling that you get, that’s the feeling I play for. When I got to know about my injury, the first couple of days I was quite low, a bit disappointed. But it’s only when you haven’t played, the last time, I was looking forward to playing there as it’s such an iconic venue. The way we played that game, by the end of it, I was very happy, the way that we played and won.”

“It was my first day, I was only trying to get a feel, to be honest, to see how the injury is reacting, if there is any jarness or soreness while playing. But it went much better than I expected and Kamlesh bhai expected and I’m very happy with that.”
