Shreyas Iyer joined the Punjab King’s training camp ahead of Champions trophy after being acquired by the franchise for a record-breaking ₹26.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Punjab Kings shared photos on their social media, showing Iyer blending in seamlessly with his new teammates.

Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL 2024 title was released ahead of the mega auction, prompting Punjab Kings to secure the talented batter.

Last International Appearance and Domestic Heroics

Iyer’s last international outing was during the five-match Test series against England in February 2024. Since then, he wasn’t featured in the Indian team but has made a remarkable impact in domestic cricket, paving the way for his potential comeback.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Iyer has been in scintillating form, amassing 312 runs in just four matches for Mumbai. His standout performances include a commanding 137-run knock against Puducherry, which propelled Mumbai to a massive 163-run victory after bundling their opponents for 127.

Another remarkable innings came against Karnataka, where Iyer smashed a 50-ball century, finishing with 114 runs and rescuing Mumbai from a precarious 82/5 situation.

A Potential Comeback to Team India

With the Indian team set to play a five-match T20I and three-match ODI series against England starting January 22, Iyer’s recent domestic performances could earn him a spot in the national squad. The selectors may also consider him as a strong middle-order option for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled a month later.

Shreyas Iyer’s red-hot form in domestic cricket has reignited hopes of his resurgence in international cricket, making him a player to watch in both the IPL 2025 and the upcoming international fixtures.
