Shreyas Iyer sold by Punjab Kings IPL 2025 auction: Shreyas Iyer has been bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. With this, Shrews has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Earlier, the most expensive player of the Indian Premier League was Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. There was a fight from beginning to end between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings for Shreyas Iyer in the mega auction.
Arshdeep Singh’s base price was Rs 2 crore, KKR made the first bid for him but decided not to go beyond Rs 9.75 crore. After this, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals made a bid of Rs 1 crore each. The bidding on Shreyas Iyer reached Rs 15 crore, then Rs 20 crore and even Rs 25 crore. When Punjab bid Rs 26.25 crore, the Delhi management appeared to be in a state of confusion for a long time. Delhi gambled with a bid of Rs 26.50 crore, but Punjab eventually managed to rope in Iyer with a bid of Rs 26.75 crore.
Rs 44.75 crore spent on 2 players
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Punjab has so far spent Rs 44.75 crore on only two players. Apart from bidding Rs 26.75 crore for Shreyas Iyer, PBKS bought Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 crore through RTM card. Even now Rs 65.75 crore is left in the purse of Punjab. There should be at least 18 players in a team. Therefore, Punjab still has to buy at least 14 more players for an amount of Rs 65.75 crore.
