Mumbai: The Shree Siddhivinayak temple at Prabhadevi reported a record income of Rs. 133 crore in 2024-2025, an increase of 15% over the last financial year. The income was higher than the Rs 114 crores that was estimated for the year.

The temple trust has proposed a scheme “Shree Siddhivinayak Bhagyalakshmi” for girls born in government hospitals on ‘International Women’s Day’ on March 8. The scheme proposes to create a fixed deposit account of Rs 10,000 in the mother’s bank account for the girl child.

The scheme for the girl child and financial plans for the next year were announced on March 31 during the presentation of the annual report for 2024-2025 and the budget for 2025-2026 under the chairmanship of Sadanand Sarvankar. The trust is expecting an income of Rs 154 crores in 2025-26.

The trust said that the scheme for the girl child was announced to encourage more parents to have girl children, provide financial support for their education, and make efforts for the empowerment of girls, the central and state governments should contribute to the policy.

The temple trust’s management committee has given approval to the scheme for girl children. A proposal has been submitted for the approval of the government and the criteria for the scheme will be announced soon after the approval, the trust said.

The temple’s income comes from donations made by devotees and sale of laddoo and coconut barfi as prasad. The temple also auctions jewelry and other precious items donated by devotees. On Gudi Padwa day on March 30, the temple auctioned gold ornaments worth Rs 1.33 crores.

With the money, the temple supports social welfare activities such as providing financial assistance to poor and needy patients, distribution of free books to poor students, and financing dialysis centres at hospitals. The temple is managed by the Maharashtra government under the Shree Siddhi Vinayak Ganpati Temple Trust (Prabhadevi).
