Mumbai: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the MRA Marg police to submit the medical reports of a minor, who was allegedly illegally detained and brutally assaulted with kicks and belts by police officers. The SHRC has also instructed the advocate representing the police officials to review the complaint and submit a response before the commission on February 5.
A complaint filed by Govindbhai Parmar, National President of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Congress, states that a robbery case was registered against the minor by his own relative at the MRA Marg Police Station in 2019. The complaint alleges that the police illegally detained and assaulted the minor while he was in their custody.
Advocate Ashish Phalke, representing the minor, claimed: “After a complaint was filed against the minor by his relative, the police called him to the station, took him to the remand home, and assaulted him with kicks and belts in 2019. The child was allegedly forced to confess to the crime, despite his unwillingness. Later, when he stopped responding, fearing an untoward situation, the officers left him outside the police station.”
Advocate Phalke further stated that the minor’s father later took him to St. George Hospital, where medical reports confirmed injuries to his head and stomach.
After reviewing the complaint, the SHRC has ordered the MRA Marg police to file a response and submit the medical reports of the minor for further investigation. The case is scheduled for the next hearing on February 5.
