Aligarh: In a bizarre turn of events, a woman from Aligarh’s Manoharpur village reportedly eloped with her daughter’s prospective groom, just nine days before their wedding day. The incident left both families stunned.
The local police have launched a probe after receiving a missing complaint. The woman also reportedly fled with cash and jewellery meant for her daughter’s wedding, leaving her family in distress.
How Did the Incident Unfold?
According to Jitendra Kumar, the father of the bride-to-be, preparations were in full swing for the April 16 wedding. Invitations had been sent out, and the family was busy with arrangements when his wife and the groom suddenly went missing. Additionally, the woman allegedly took all the valuables from the house, including gold and silver jewellery and the cash kept aside for the grand ceremony.
Jitendra told the police that while the groom had minimal interaction with his daughter, he would frequently engage in long conversations with her mother over the phone. “I had no idea something like this was brewing. Now my wife has absconded with my daughter’s would-be husband,” he told UP Tak. The groom reportedly left a message with the family stating, “You’ve troubled me enough for 20 years. Forget us now.”
Police Registers Complaint
The bride-to-be, devastated by the betrayal, expressed her shock. “My mother has taken everything—money, jewellery, even our dignity. She ran away with the man I was supposed to marry. We don’t want any relation with her now. We only want our stolen belongings returned,” she told the publication.
Police have registered a missing person’s complaint and are currently investigating the matter. Authorities assured the family that efforts are underway to trace both the absconding individuals.
