Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A senior student allegedly assaulted a junior for refusing to dance to the Bollywood song “Uyi Amma” at Gwalior’s Jiwaji University on Friday. The incident took place in the university’s management institute, involving students from the BBA and MBA programs.
After the incident was reported, students staged a protest, demanding strict action against the accused. Female students also raised concerns about the deteriorating atmosphere in the management institute and urged the university administration to intervene.
According to information, Himanshu Bhadauria, a sixth-semester BBA student, filed a complaint with Dr. Swarna Parmar, the Head of the Department (HOD), stating that senior MBA student Priyanshu Rajawat and his associates forced him to dance and even demanded that he remove his clothes while doing so. When he refused, the seniors allegedly thrashed him. Himanshu accused MBA students Anuj Rajawat, Pantu, and four others of physical assault and ragging.
Upon receiving information, Proctor Prof. S.K. Singh, Joint Proctor Dr. Navneet Garud, Dr. Nimisha Jadon, and Dr. Swarna reached the scene. However, they stated that no formal complaint had been received yet. The BBA student’s complaint has been forwarded to the registrar’s office.
Students stage a protest
In the wake of the incident, students organized a protest, calling for stringent measures against the accused. Female students voiced their concerns about the deteriorating environment at the management institute and pressed the university administration to take prompt action. Registrar Arun Chauhan mentioned that the Proctorial Board and the HOD are currently reviewing the matter, and appropriate steps will be taken based on their findings.
