Mumbai: On Thursday, Shiv Sena (UBT) launched a signature campaign against constructing a 17-storeyed robotic parking tower behind Mumbadevi temple in Kalbadevi.
“Around 900 people, including the devotees visiting the temple and residents of Mumbadevi participated in the signature campaign opposing the parking tower. We plan to continue the campaign for two or three, gather 4000 to 5000 thousand signatures, and submit it with a letter to BMC Commissioner,” Santosh Shinde local Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said.
The BMC has undertaken the Rs 122 crore project at Mumbadevi, which will accommodate more than 500 vehicles. The project is one of the four robotic parking towers the corporation has planned. The other three are located at Fort (Hutatma Chowk), Worli, Matunga and Mumbadevi.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, MLA Aaditya Thackeray has also voiced his opposition for the project and alleged that the project is planned to benefit the contractor. He met BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Monday on the same and urged to scrap the project.
Along with Thackeray, the general manager of Mumbaidevi Temple Trust Hemant Jadhav was also present. The temple trust has recently written to the BMC Commissioner reiterating its opposition to the parking tower.
Jadhav said, “We are not against the development. However, we had requested to construct the tower on the other corner of the plot. The 17-storeyed tower right behind the temple, where lakhs of devotees visit, is nothing but a safety hazard. We had proposed to develop the plot with amenities for the devotees. The parking tower will benefit the shopkeepers of Kalbadevi and not common citizens.”
