The Kandivali police on Sunday arrested Lalsingh Rajpurohit, an office-bearer of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), for allegedly threatening a contractor for extortion. The Free Press Journal reported on March 7 that the police had not taken action against Rajpurohit for allegedly demanding extortion from a road construction contractor and had also failed to file an FIR against him in another cheating case.

Anand Bhoite, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11), stated, “We arrested the accused for threatening a contractor for extortion after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the sessions court. He will be produced in court on Monday.”

The police had registered an FIR on December 28 against Rajpurohit and five other workers of a political party for allegedly demanding extortion from a road construction contractor. The accused have been identified as Lalsingh Rajpurohit, Ganesh Pawar, Pinto Jaiswal, Vikas Gupta, Nilesh Jaiswal, and Suresh Shah. In this case, two accused were arrested and later granted bail.

The incident took place on December 27 at 1:30 p.m., when the accused summoned the contractor to their office and threatened him, demanding Rs.5 lakh before allowing the work to begin.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Ashish Malha, 29, a resident of Santacruz West, works as a civil engineer for BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd. The company had received a contract to build a cement road in Irani Wadi, R Ward. As per Malha’s complaint, on December 27 at 1:30 p.m., around 20 to 25 workers gathered at Irani Wadi, Road No. 3, where they assaulted company engineers Vishwanath Chaurasia and Vineet Singh with fists and sticks.

The complainant also alleged that in February 2024, Vikas Gupta and Nilesh Jaiswal, associates of Lalsingh Rajpurohit, extorted Rs.4 lakh per week from Mahipal Vyas and Trishit Tak, engineers at a sister company of BSCPL Infrastructure, by threatening to kill them.

In another matter, following The Free Press Journal’s report on March 8, the police registered an FIR against Rajpurohit and his associate Harish Makdia for alleged fraud.

The complaint was filed on January 6 by Sushma Pai, a Borivali resident. She alleged that in 2021, she wanted to sell her shop to raise funds for her paralysed husband, Dattaram Pai’s, treatment. A deal was struck with Rajpurohit for Rs.52 lakh. He paid a small token amount and took possession of the shop, Pai said.

However, when the Pai family did not receive the full payment within the agreed timeframe, they visited Rajpurohit’s office in February 2022 to demand the money. Rajpurohit allegedly told them that he did not have the funds but would pay later. As the Pai family urgently needed money for treatment, they insisted that he either pay the amount or return the shop.
