Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar’s car met with an accident near the SRPF camp gate in Mumbai’s Jogeshwari area late Sunday night. Reports indicate that Waikar was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision, which occurred on the Western Express Highway. The accident involved an Eicher tempo colliding with Waikar’s car.

While initial details suggest no casualties or injuries, the police have launched an investigation into the incident. The tempo driver is suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The collision reportedly happened when the tempo rammed into Waikar’s vehicle near the SRPF camp entrance. Following the mishap, police reached the spot and began inquiries to ascertain the exact cause.

Who Is Ravindra Waikar?

Ravindra Waikar is a leader associated with the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Earlier, Waikar had shifted allegiance from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena to join the Shinde-led faction.

He has been representing the Jogeshwari East Assembly constituency since 2009 and has a long political career, starting as a municipal corporator in Mumbai in 1992. Waikar served as the Minister of State for Housing and Higher & Technical Education during the Fadnavis government from 2014 to 2019.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Waikar contested from the North-West Mumbai constituency, defeating Amol Kirtikar of the Uddhav Thackeray faction to secure his position as MP.

Accident Details Awaited

The police are currently investigating whether the tempo driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Witnesses claim there were signs of reckless driving from the tempo and more details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
