A day after party cadres demanded the resignation of NCP (SP) state president Jayant Patil following the party’s poor performance in the Assembly elections, Shiv Sena leader and minister Sanjay Shirsat hinted at a major political upheaval in Maharashtra. He claimed that the Sharad Pawar faction might soon exit the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
The NCP (SP) recently convened a two-day meeting, during which two conflicting perspectives emerged. One faction advocated for direct participation in power, while the other suggested merging with Ajit Pawar’s party to join the government.
Shirsat commented, “We are seeing Sharad Pawar’s position change day by day. This indicates that he wants to be in power. Those who cannot survive without power will likely try to align with the alliance or join Ajit Pawar’s camp.”
Amid rising dissatisfaction among party workers, Patil expressed frustration. He instructed party members, “In the next two days, provide detailed reports on how many votes our party candidates secured in your respective wards. If the results fail to demonstrate our strength, I will resign as state president within eight days.”
