In 1968, the wedding of actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was very much discussed. This was the first time in India that a cricketer was associated with an actress. Their love story is quite filmy and both have worked hard to make this love story successful. Sharmila Tagore left Brahminism for Mansoor Ali Khan, converted to Islam and married a cricketer in the name of Ayesha Sultana. The pair is a confluence of cinema and cricket. Mansoor Ali Khan used to call Pataudi as ‘Tiger’ on the ground. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi left this world, but he will always be remembered on the field. But now the England Cricket Board has taken such a decision, after which Sharmila Tagore’s heart is broken.
Sharmila Tagore wrote a letter to Saif Ali Khan
Actually, the MAK Pataudi Trophy organized in the name of Indian cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi is being closed. The Test series between India and England began in 2007, which is played in memory of the first India vs England Test match in 1932. But now the England Cricket Board (ECB) is thinking of changing it. This decision has not been finalized yet. However, the actress has expressed anger against the BCCI.
Sharmila Tagore is not happy with this decision. Talking to Hindustan Times, he said that his son Saif Ali Khan has been informed about this. The actress said, ‘I have not received any information from him, but the ECB has sent a letter to Saif that he is retiring the trophy. Expressing his displeasure, he said, “Whether or not BCCI wants to remember the legacy of ‘Tiger’ is his decision.” He is ‘unhappy’ with this step.
Even before this the trophy was retired.
This is not the first time ECB has retired a player. There are many such examples in cricket. The Wisdon Trophy to be played between England and West Indies was discontinued. The trophy is now called the ‘Richards-Batham Trophy’, named after Vivian Richards and Ian Botham.
