Cannes 2025 had a truly special moment on May 19 as Indian film legends Sharmila Tagore and Simi Garewal came together to honour the timeless work of iconic film director Satyajit Ray. The two veterans attended the screening of the 4K restored version of ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’ (Days and Nights in the Forest) as part of the Cannes Classics lineup.
Dressed in elegant looks, they turned the evening into a heartfelt celebration of Indian cinema’s golden era, bringing with them nostalgia and a whole lot of style.
Simi Garewal’s regal Cannes debut in ivory ensemble
Marking her Cannes debut, Simi Garewal looked like she walked straight out of a dream. Dressed in a custom ivory Karleo ensemble, her look featured a voluminous skirt, adorned with intricate rose motifs and delicate silk thread embroidery. She paired the skirt with a statement longline jacket, featuring structured shoulders and pearl-beaded embroidery.
What truly complemented her outfit was the stunning choker crafted from uncut diamonds and pearls, paired with a few statement rings. She kept her makeup soft yet striking with a clean base, flushed cheeks, dramatic winged liner, and a bold red lip. Lastly, her hair, styled in soft waves, flowed effortlessly in the French Riviera air.
Sharmila Tagore’s timeless grace in handwoven heritage
Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore paid tribute to the film and to Indian craftsmanship by choosing a deep green handwoven saree, proving once again that simplicity can make the strongest style statement.
The saree was embellished with golden zari borders and subtle vertical stripes, featuring a traditional pallu adorned with classic motifs, elegantly draped over her shoulder.
Opting for minimal yet elegant accessories, Tagore wore a delicate gold necklace and small matching earrings. Lastly, for the glam, she kept it natural and effortless with minimal makeup and half-up, half-down hairdo.
