The market witnessed a bullish rise in the first trading session of 2025 and Sensex and Nifty closed with gains. Midcap, smallcap indices closed with gains. Auto, energy shares were bullish while realty and metal shares remained under pressure. The stock market closed with a rise on the third day of the trading week and the first day of the new year. By 3.30 pm, Sensex was up 368 points at 78,507 points and Nifty was up 98.10 points at 23,742 points.
Top gainer and top loser
Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Bajaj Finance, L&T, IndusInd Bank were the top gainers in Nifty. Whereas Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Hindalco Industries, Trent, ONGC, Tata Steel were the top losers in Nifty. Except realty and metal, all sector indices closed in the green. Auto and capital goods indices closed with a gain of 1 per cent. While BSE Midcap Index closed with a gain of 0.4 percent and Smallcap Index closed with a gain of 1 percent.
