Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, has set up a shadow cabinet to scrutinize the Maharashtra government’s 100- day agenda. Party leaders have been assigned regional responsibilities and instructed to strengthen the party’s presence by touring the state.

Tasks Given

A key meeting in Mumbai focused on the party’s organizational structure, attended by all MLAs and MPs. Important leaders were given tasks to expand the party’s footprint across Maharashtra. Sharad Pawar assigned regions to various leaders: Rajesh Tope and Jayprakash Dandegaonkar for Marathwada, Rajendra Shingne and Anil Deshmukh for Vidarbha, Jeetendra Awhad for Konkan, Shashikant Shinde and Harshwardhan Patil for West and North Maharashtra.

These leaders will tour their areas to address local issues and potentially introduce new faces to the party. Sharad Pawar emphasized that office bearers should be re-energized and submit a report after touring the state in the next three months.

Shirur MP Amol Kolhe stated that there was a lack of coordination within the ruling alliance, with certain parties unable to make decisions without the Chief Minister’s approval. This unrest, Kolhe said, highlighted the necessity for the shadow cabinet to monitor the government’s actions, particularly on issues like rising electricity rates, increasing crimes against women, and unresolved farmer issues.

Kolhe also mentioned that the NCP would decide on the Leader of the Opposition position in Maharashtra during the upcoming Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coordination committee meeting. The party has urged the government to consider the proposal for this position in the current legislative session.

Fahad Ahmed has been appointed as the National President of the NCP Youth Wing. He had recently contested the Anushakti Nagar Assembly elections on an NCP ticket and is also married to actress Swara Bhasker.
