Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he has urged to install an unclaimed statues of Peshwa Bajirao I, Mahadji Shinde and Malharrao Holkar at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.

Sharad Pawar, in his letter, described the place historically for the military operations of the Maratha Empire and said that these statues would be a suitable tribute to the valor and contribution of these brave warriors.

Demand to install unclaimed statues of Maratha warriors

Pune-based non-governmental organization (NGO) had planned to install statues of these three Maratha warriors at the first Talkatora Stadium. However, litterateurs and historians suggested installing full -sized statues in an anonymous state.

Pawar wrote in his letter:

“Many litterateurs and well -wishers believe that full -sized statues in an unclaimed state will be more suitable tributes to the valor and historical contribution of these great warriors.”

He also informed that the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi comes under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Council (NDMC), so the Prime Minister should instruct the Delhi government and NDMC to give necessary permission.

Historical importance of Talkatora Stadium

  • The Talkatora Stadium is the place where the Maratha Empire carried out its military operations against the Mughals.
  • The stadium was also the site of the 98th Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

What did Sharad Pawar say in a letter to PM Modi?

Sharad Pawar in his letter praised Prime Minister Modi’s interest in Marathi Sahitya Sammelan and Maratha history. they wrote:

“The literary festival organized by Sarhad Pune and All India Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal attained historical significance under your leadership. Your deep and practical speech impressed Marathi people around the world. I am grateful for your special affection and support. “

He said that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has always been helpful in creating and preserving the glorious past of India, and he hopes that instructions will be issued soon to give necessary permission to the NDMC.

Will the Talkatora Stadium have statues of Maratha warriors?

Now it will be interesting to see if the government approves this demand of Sharad Pawar and whether the illiterate statues of Bajirao, Shinde and Holkar will be installed in Delhi?
