A recent restaurant in China has made the headlines for claiming to raise a chicken with music and milk. A rare breed, a sunflower chicken, was raised listening to music and feeding milk, making it highly priced. The Shanghai Club served this chicken on plate for a staggering price of 480 yuan (Rs. 5667) stating it was a rare breed raised in a different way.
A local news media, South China Morning Post, reported the bizarre claim of the Shanghai restaurant while quoting a customer. The report revealed a businessman and influencer dined at the eatery and ordered this chicken to his table, only to be shocked later.
He was charged a hefty price for the chicken meal. The staff informed him the chicken was a rare breed raised in a particular way, which made it expensive. When he checked with the restaurant staff, they confirmed the chicken was raised “listening to music and drinking milk”, according to the news report.

Chickens do listen to classical music, but they are not fed with milk, Jimu News noted while quoting the words of a sunflower chicken farm member.
A poultry page named ‘Country Smallholder’ added that there is considerable evidence that these creatures listen and respond to music. The website referred to a study by Bristol University in which they played pop, rock, classical or silence in nest boxes and monitored the laying chickens’ preferences.
