New Delhi, March 04: Congress National Spokesperson Shama Mohamed on Tuesday congratulated Team India for their win against Australia in the semi-final clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. She also praised Virat Kohli’s innings of 84 runs in the match. Shama has been facing the ire from the internet users and the leaders from the opposition parties for her remarks body shaming Team India captain Rohit Sharma. Congress party also distanced itself from her remarks and said that the party has no connection with the statement issued by her.

Taking to her official social media account, Shama said, “Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their spectacular victory against Australia in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy 2025. A big shout out to @imVkohli for scoring 84 and to be the first player to score 1000 runs in ICC knock out tournaments!”

In her post on X, Shama Mohamed said that Rohit Sharma needs to lose weight. She said, “@ImRo45 is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And ofcourse the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!”

Amid the outrage, Shama deleted the X post fat-shaming the Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma. She issued a statement and said, “This is my personal remark, don’t bring my party into this. We can speak about someone’s fitness, what’s the issue in that? Since I am fit, I was only talking about his fitness… why are you making an issue out of it?”

She also said that she is not able to come out of her house due to the outrage against her comments against Rohit Sharma.

Shama congratulated the team after their win against Australia in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Now, Team India will face the winner of the second semi-final which will be played between South Africa and New Zealand.

Batting first today, Australia set a target of 264 runs against India. Riding on Virat Kohli’s brilliant 84 runs, Team India managed to defeat Australia easily by 4 wickets. KL Rahul finished the match by hitting a six off Glenn Maxwell in the 49th over.
