The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has reacted strongly to the alleged statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. SGPC described it as an insult to the Sikh community and appealed to the government to respect religious sentiments.
SGPC described Amit Shah’s statement as anti -Sikh
SGPC on Friday passed a resolution in its General Assembly condemning Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament. According to the committee, “Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale is considered a martyr to protect Sikhism”, and it is unacceptable to compare such a person with terrorists.
According to the report of the Indian Express, SGPC criticized Amit Shah’s statement in which he compared Amritpal Singh to Bhindranwale and said that “some people were trying to become Bhindranwale and are now reciting Guru Granth Sahib in Assam’s jail.”
Describing this statement as an “anti -Sikh mindset”, SGPC said that “this is a statement hurting the country’s multi -religious and multicultural identity”.
It is wrong to present Gurbani in a negative context
The SGPC Mahasabha also criticized Amit Shah’s alleged remarks related to Gurbani. The proposal said, “Gurbani is a divine speech composed by Guru Sahibans, and presenting it in a negative context is an insult to its purity.”
The committee reminded the government that “Gurbani’s teachings have enriched India’s cultural heritage and the Sikh community has given countless sacrifices for the freedom and security of the country.”
SGPC opposed to farmers’ issue
The SGPC in the proposal passed in the General Assembly criticized the policies of the central government for the struggle of the farmers. The committee said that “legitimate demands of farmers called the backbone of India’s economy are being ignored.”
The SGPC alleged that “the government is registering false cases against those participating in the peasant movement and arresting them, which is against democratic values.” The committee demanded immediate withdrawal of cases against farmer leaders.
Welcome to investigation of police encounters
SGPC welcomed the court’s decision on fake encounters after 1984 in Punjab. The Mahasabha insisted that “many innocent Sikh youth were killed by implicating them in false cases, and now the guilty police officers should be punished.”
Demand to open visa office in Amritsar
The SGPC Mahasabha demanded to set up a visa office for Sikh devotees in Amritsar. According to the committee, “Devotees wishing to visit Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and other historical sites should get visas throughout the year, not only on special occasions.”
Demand for special quota for Sikhs in Indian Army
SGPC demanded special recruitment quota for Sikh youth in the Indian Army. The Mahasabha said that “the Sikh community has been a historical contribution in the defense of the country.”
The proposal said, “Sikh soldiers have shown valor in the First and Second World War, Kargil War and other military campaigns. A dedicated quota for Sikh youth in the army will not only strengthen their traditional role, but will also increase the power and reputation of the Indian Army.”
