Mumbai: A sessions court recently acquitted a man charged with pushing his girlfriend off a water tank on the terrace of a high-rise building in Dahisar. Amey Darekar was arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly pushing Priyangi Singh off the water tank on the terrace of La Bellezza Cooperative, Borivali (East), on November 13, 2022.
The complaint against Amey was lodged by Manish Singh, father of Priyangi. He alleged that Priyangi and Amey met on the terrace of La Bellezza and consumed alcohol. He said the two had a fight, and Amey assaulted Priyangi and pushed her on to the terrace.
Priyangi sustained multiple injuries and became unconscious, he said, adding that Amey’s mother later took her to hospital. In her testimony, Priyangi said that she and Amey were sitting on the water tank. “It was sunrise. The accused [Amey Darekar] and I were talking.
Thereafter 1 don’t remember anything. I directly woke up in the hospital,” she said. The defence lawyer, Arun Jadhav, argued that Manish and Priyangi had made contradictory statements. They first claimed that Priyangi had a fall inside Amey’s house, and later accused Amey of pushing her off the tank, Jadhav said. Priyangi had failed to point out any role of Amey in her testimony, the court said, and for want of further evidence acquitted him from the charges of attempted murder on Thursday.
