Mumbai: The sessions court at Dindoshi on Saturday acquitted two persons who were prosecuted for the murder of 27-year-old actor-model Kritika Chaudhary in June 2017 at her residence. The additional sessions judge, Dindoshi court, SJ Ansari acquitted two – Shakil Khan, 42, and Basu Makam Das, 55, for want of corroborative evidence as the case was based on circumstantial evidence.
About The Case
As per the prosecution’s case, the actor’s decomposed body was found in her rented apartment in Andheri by the police on June 12, 2017, after neighbours complained of a foul smell. An accidental death was registered initially, but turned into a murder case after the post-mortem report indicated unnatural death (with signs of injuries).
The prosecution relied heavily on the CCTV footage of the building. The watchman, who was a star witness, helped the police. The defence, however, claimed that the watchman in fact was the suspect. The defence pointed out several lacunas and also hinted that the cause of death was not probed as the original post-mortem report was not before the court.
The defence had contended that the prosecution had failed to link the accused with the murder. Chaudhary, who hailed from Haridwar, had appeared in a small role in the Kangana Ranaut-starrer film ‘Rajjo’ in 2013. She had also worked in some TV serials. The police had claimed that Chaudhary was killed as she had failed to make payment for a narcotic substance she had allegedly bought. The police claimed that besides the murder, the accused had also stolen several valuables.
