A serious accident occurred on the Pune-Satara highway when a speeding container collided with a car, leaving two people critically injured on Saturday. Among the seriously injured were a three-and-a-half-year-old girl and her father. The other passengers in the car escaped with minor injuries.
The incident took place when a container, traveling at high speed from behind, crashed into the car, which was on its way from Mumbai to the family’s native village in Kolhapur. The car, driven by Sarjerao Sakharam Patil (60), was carrying his wife Bayakka Patil (50), son Praveen Patil (35), and granddaughter Ira Patil (3.5 years). Praveen and Ira sustained serious injuries in the accident.
The collision caused significant traffic disruption, with a four-kilometer-long traffic jam on the Pune-Satara highway. The container, loaded with medicines, lost control after passing the Cheladi flyover and struck the car, leaving the container partially hanging on the bridge.
Rajgad police arrived at the scene promptly, rushed the injured to Siddhivinayak Hospital for treatment, and restored traffic flow after clearing the wreckage. A single lane was temporarily created, causing long queues of vehicles from Degaon Phata to Varve.
