Donald J Trump is officially the 47th president of the United States. Trump was sworn in on January 20 in the United States Capitol Rotunda.

Markets In Trump Era

Immediately after taking office, Trump, as promised, signed a flurry of executive orders, ranging on different issues.

Following the inauguration, the Indian markets opened on Tuesday, January 21 in green.

The Indian markets opened relatively flat on Tuesday. At the time of writing, Sensex was at 77,156.21, up by 82.77 points or 0.11 per cent. The Nifty was at 23,399.30, up by 54.55 points or 0.23 per cent.

Nifty Bank in the morning session was trading low at 49,312.25, down by 38.55 points or 0.08 per cent

From the Sensex pack,Ultratech, Tech Mahindra and TCS were among the major gainers in the morning session whereas Zomato, NTPC, Bharti Airtel and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the laggards.

The Indian Rupee opened at 86.40 against the United States Dollar.

Markets on Monday

The stock markets ended the previous day of trade with some gains, after days of losses. Both the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty picked themselves up in green.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed the day at 77,073.44. The index rose by 0.59 per cent or 454.11 points. Similarly, the NSE Nifty ended in green, increasing by 141.55 points or 0.61 per cent, closing at 23,344.75.

Gainers and Losers

On Monday, Kotak Mahindra Bank was one the biggest gainers with a jump of 9 per cent in its value. Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and NTPC also made major gains at the markets.

Amongst laggards, Zomato, TCS, Adani Ports, Mahindra & Mahindra closed in red.

Energy and International Markets

When we look at the international crude oil market, the prices of benchmark avenue has seen an uptick. The U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) reached the market of USD 78.04 per barrel, compared to the previous closing of USD 78.68. Brent crude prices increased to USD 80.42 a barrel, compared to its previous closing of USD 80.15 per barrel.

On Monday both S&P 500 and Nasdaq saw a collective rise in their numbers, meanwhile, Dow Jones Industrial Average also saw an uptick in its overall value.

The S&P 500 closed at 5,996.66, jumping 1.00 per cent or 59.32 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at 43,487.83 with gains of 0.78 per cent or 334.70 points.

Additionally, the Nasdaq Composite saw a big surge of 1.51 per cent or 291.91 points to reach 19,630.20.

The Asian indices started the New Trump Era on a positive note. At the time of writing, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.13 per cent to reach 38,951.77, in the early hours of the day’s trade.

The TOPIX was in red, with a marginal decline of 072 per cent, slumping to 2,709.32 points.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng had a different story to tell, as the index rose by 0.47 per cent to climb to 20,019.75 points.

In mainland China, as the fear of Trump’s tariffs look, the SSE composite dropped in value by 0.35 per cent, to slump to 3,233.10.

South Korea’s KOSPI also dropped in value. The index diminished by 0.19 per cent to crawl at 2,516.10.
