Senior Police Officer Severely Injured by Nylon Manja, Undergoes Surgery

PSI Deepak Pardhe from Waluj in Aurangabad was injured due to nylon manja and was taken to Sigma Hospital for treatment. He sustained an injury to his neck, and an operation was conducted. His condition is stable. PSI Pardhe serves in the LCB (Local Crime Branch) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Nylon manja is known to cause injuries to residents, especially those on two-wheelers. Hence, strict action should be taken against those selling nylon manja.

This incident comes a month after Mohd Imam, a student, was going from Cidco to Nandanvan Colony on his motorcycle. At the same time, a nylon manja passed by him, causing a cut below his eye. Fortunately, his eye was saved. He was immediately admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and sustained 17 stitches. Another person, Syed Sohail, sustained neck injuries and required eight stitches.

The city police and administration have been creating awareness and taking action against the use of nylon manja in the city. Despite the 2017 ban on the manufacture, sale, and use of harmful nylon manja, the sharp, glass-coated thread continues to be readily available in Pune.

The sale and production of nylon manja are banned in Maharashtra as per directives from the Bombay High Court. The manja causes severe injuries to two-wheeler riders, and deaths have also been reported in some cases.
